You may have encountered his easy-going and friendly personality over summer at the 2017 PRSSA Leadership Rally or in your journalism and media studies classes. For those of you who haven't, we'd like to introduce you to our Vice President Jacob Rocha. Let's find out who he is and how he serves our Chapter.
How would you describe yourself?
I'm a passionate fellow that can have a deep three-hour conversation about any topic, especially while exploring the great outdoors. I'm spontaneous. I love to work with my hands. I love fixing things and finding stuff that people lost. I'm a hard worker and I find gratitude in helping others achieve their goals. Other than that, I'm still figuring myself out and probably won't have a definite answer for quite some time.
How do you serve our Chapter?
As vice president, I plan to support our president and assist our members to make for the most productive environment possible. I understand that no one role is more important than another, and that constant communication breeds strong, reliable relationships. Also, I'd like to better define the skills that we learn in class to show how anyone (not just PR majors) can put them into play outside of the classroom.
What should members reach out to you for?
I hope that our members can feel comfortable reaching out to me for anything! Especially when it comes to work/school/social life balancing. The struggle is real, and time management is a crucial part of thriving in college, especially for a PR student. Aside from my guru skills, I'm well-versed in artist relations and event planning, specializing in music and the arts.
How does PRSSA inspire you?
Maybe it's just me, but PRSSA members seem to be more motivated and schedule-oriented than the average student. As a fan of self-improvement, I know that it's always beneficial to be around others that motivate you to be the best version of yourself. PRSSA inspires me to take risks in the form of creative, new ideas. Fellow members help to refine those ideas and implement them into a feasible plan.
What are your career aspirations?
I have a passion for music that stems from being in a band for over one-third of my life, and working for a guitar company for six years. I'm intrigued by the idea of incorporating conservation advocacy into the entertainment industry, combining forces to create a larger audience with a common goal. I'd love to use my skills in PR, journalism and communications to help aspiring artists and ensure a better future for generations to come.
If you have questions about PRSSA or how you can make the most out of your membership, feel free to email Jacob at jtrocha805@gmail.com. We're looking forward to an awesome year!
