It's no secret that as both a San Diego State student and a PRSSA member, there is a plethora of scholarships and internships available for each member's disposal. However, the key to acquiring these opportunities requires a decent amount of time and effort. I know the search can be daunting and time consuming, but the rewards outweigh it all.
This is not a motivational speech to urge you to apply for scholarships and internships. This is a push to challenge and distinguish yourself from other students in the same application pool seeking the same job. But we've all heard how important scholarships and internships are, now how do you up your chances of getting one?
Here are 10 tips to consider when searching for scholarships and internships during your time at SDSU:
1. Whatever you do please don’t forget the scholarship and internship deadlines! Something as simple as remembering due dates shouldn’t be an excuse to miss out on opportunities.
2. Make sure you stand out in your personal statement. What makes you valuable? There are a lot of applicants at a time, so make yourself stand out.
3. Read the directions. Many different applications require different material. Where one might want a personal statement, another might want a short cover letter.
4. Most applications will require letter(s) of recommendation(s). Make sure to note the due date and give your professors a decent amount of notice.
5. Remember to proofread all of your applications. Having more than one pair of eyes is extremely helpful.
